Pirates slip up against AmaZulu

Collins Mbesuma had given Bucs and early lead, but Goodman Dlamini equalised in the second half.

It was a missed opportunity for the Buccaneers after Chiefs could only draw with Maritzburg United, but it all started well enough when Mbesuma buried a pass from Oupa Manyisa, who had been played in by Daine Klate.

Senzo Meyiwa made his first save on 20 minutes, saving Nkanyiso Cele’s low drive down to his right.

Goodman Dlamini was forced to clear off the line from Klate after Tapuwa Kapini dropped a corner kick, while at the other end Andile Jali beat two defenders but then saw his shot hit the side-netting.

Tamsanqa Teyise hit a free-kick just wide of the post just before the break, before Khethokwakhe Masuku missed two chances at the start of the second half.

AmaZulu should have drawn level when Goodman Dlamini found himself one-on-one with Meyiwa, but the keeper came out on top.

However, the striker was not to be denied, slotting home on the hour-mark after Thokozani Mshengu’s shot came back off the woodwork.

Njabulo Manqana missed a great chance on the counter, before Kapini made a world-class save to deny Mbesuma, who had been set up by the impressive Jali.

Ayanda Dlamini almost won the match late on, but he just failed to connect with Joseph Malongoane’s cross as the game ended in a draw.
