Muhsin: Zwane is completely underrated

Zwane earlier this week completed a loan move from Mamelodi Sundowns to Ajax, reuniting with his former coach at Golden Arrows, who wasted little time in fielding the wing-back in the Cape club’s midweek encounter against Pirates.

The 32-year-old put in a solid shift for the full 90 minutes, his marauding run setting up former Downs teammate Yannick Zakri who tapped home Ajax’s third in the 3-0 win over the Buccaneers, with his performance and workrate earning high praise from his coach.

“Yeah, you saw the third goal,” Ertugral said with a smile. “He is a player I love as a human, and as a player. ‘Yoyo’ is something different, and is completely underrated. In all our years together at Golden Arrows, I was trying and speaking to some teams in Turkey about him. You don’t find a lot of players with that character.

“Fortunately for him, he played for a great team [Sundowns] in all those years and won the Champions League, and did very well for himself. To have him here, I must thank the chairman – he did everything behind the scenes to get him, and having a player like that is a bonus for us.”

Ajax’s win over Pirates came with two casualties however, as both goalkeeper Brandon Petersen (concussion) and captain Mosa Lebusa (hamstring) were taken off within the first 45 minutes, with both doubtful for the trip to Polokwane City this weekend.

Ertugral is confident that the rest of the squad will be able to step up to the plate, while highlighting two midfield talents he is excited to see on the field once more.

“There are other players who we have spoken to already that will need to be ready, and we will see who is available,” Ertugral said. “Gerald Takwara comes back and is available – the midfield needs to be a bit more strong, and I think that will help us be a bit more stable.

“Rodrick Kabwe in training looks very good. He’s hungry, but I put him on ice for a little bit – I didn’t like the eagerness that was not there, but putting him on ice has helped a bit. I’ve spoken to him and told him if he continues like he has, he will be in the team soon.”

Kick-off at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium is set for 15h30 on Sunday afternoon.
