Scara defends Sekhukhune's 12 signings

Absalom Thindwa has explained why it was important for GladAfrica Championship winners Sekhukhune United FC to sign players despite all the drama surrounding their promotion to the DStv Premiership.

The newbies have added a number of players to their playing personnel as they prepare for their first season in the elite league.

Thindwa believes the Tembisa-based side will need a strong squad next season regardless which division they will be playing in.

"Preparing and strengthening their team, there's nothing wrong with it because whether they play in the PSL (Premiership) or GladAfrica they need to be strong," Thindwa tells

"Remember the new owners it was their first season [in 2020/21], maybe they realised their squad will need some strengthening going into the PSL.

“My only concern is how many players do they have now? If they end up having more than enough players, then they are creating problems for themselves because some might not get game time."

Thindwa says the new players knows very well what they are getting themselves into by signing for the club.

"If you are a professional and you join a team like Sekhukhune, first of all you know very well it has not yet been confirmed that they are going to the PSL [due to Royal AM’s ConCourt appeal],” he added.

“If you think you are not prepared to go down to GladAfrica, it's better you don't sign. But having said that, what's wrong with you playing in GladAfrica because yes it's a level down, but the competition is still strong.

“[Thabo] Rakhale at one stage was at Chippa. I don't think there was much difference between Chippa and GladAfrica, maybe now that Gavin [Hunt] is there he will make some changes, but look at where they've been finishing on the log table."
