Machupu heads SuperSport past Stars

George Lebese filled in for the suspended Aubrey Modiba as Stars made five changes in Samkelo Mbambo, Makhehleni Makhaula, Katlego Mokhuoane, Mitchell Katsvairo and Sinethemba Jantjie.
United grabbed the best chance of the half when Evans Rusike hit the post from close-range after just four minutes.
Stars were under pressure again, with Mxolisi Machupu’s header straying wide from a cross a minute later.
United looked solid in defence and Paulus Masehe could only launch a long-range drive from the box which Ronwen Williams saved easily on 18 minutes.
Mbambo stood between United and the lead with a stunning save from point-blank range following Machupu’s attempt on 27 minutes.
Defender Clayton Daniels got a rare chance in on goal, but the towering player dragged the effort wide in the final chance of the half.
Early in the second half, Mbambo continued to frustrate United with another point-blank save off Machupu’s shot on 51 minutes.
Grant Kekana was then denied by the crossbar from a header inside the box on 56 minutes, as the pressure on Stars continued.
Ea Lla Koto aimed to sustain the pressure and brought in a double substitution in Sibusiso Hlubi and Goodman Dlamini on 62 minutes.
United responded with a change of their own, as Kamohelo Mahlatsi came in for Lebese minutes from each other.
Hlubi came close to getting the opener, but a brilliant save from Williams on 73 minutes kept out the fullback.
Matsatsantsa were pegged back in the final minutes to fulltime, but Machupu grabbed the points with a back-flick header in the 90th minute.
