SuperSport made three changes, as George Lebese, Bradley Grobler and Dean Furman returned. City opted for just two in Ayanda Nkili and Charlton Mashumba.
City looked for a 15th minute lead after Mashumba found the outside post with a left-footed strike from outside the area.
United made a promising start, as Lebese and Aubrey Modiba produced the best out of George Chigova with consecutive close-range saves earlier on.
After sussing out their opponents, United missed a good chance to take a halftime after Modiba’s long-range drive was cleared off the line by Nkili.
Matsatsantsa entered slowly into second half, and were almost caught out on 52 minutes after Bongile Booi squandered a sitter from Jabulani Maluleke’s through ball.
The Rise and Shine silently maintained their tough nature, with United huffing and puffing their way through the encounter.
Kaitano Tembo had seen enough and decided to bring the changes, with Thabo Mnyamane brought in on 66 minutes for Lebese.
Walter Musona looked to steal the points for City a minute before fulltime, but his effort bounced off the ground and into the arms of Ronwen Williams.
The result leaves push City to one spot up from fifth to fourth, while United remain in sixth place.
