Stellenbosch FC and Highlands Park played to a goalless draw in an Absa Premiership encounter on Saturday.
The Lions of the North recalled Rodney Ramagalela, Limbikani Mzava, and Marlon Heugh from the loss to Bloemfontein Celtic, while Stellies brought veteran defender Morgan Gould abck into the centre of defence.
The home side stayed cautioned on the edge of the defensive area, forming the usual defensive block to hit off on the counterattack through the wing variations.
Steve Barker were hit with a setback as early as the 12th minute when Nyiko Mobbie was pulled off due to an injury and replaced by Kristopher Bergman.
Highlands provided the best chance of the half two minutes following the half-hour mark through Peter Shalulile, but Stellies shot-stopper Boy De Jong was equal to the task to deny the Namibian.
Eight minutes later, Waseem Isaacs threatened the home side’s opener on from close range, but the forward fired blanks from close range after the visitors went to sleep.
Stellies, however, ended the half with a man short after Gould saw red following after picking up his second yellow card.
Steve Barker issued another change at the resumption, with Junior Awono replacing Dickson Afoakwa on the wide side of the area.
The Lions of the North introduced their first change on 52 minutes in Mothobi Mvala, who entered in the place of Mlungisi Mbunjana.
Stellies were more adventurous following the break and found more opening in the final third, but were let down with the final execution up front.
The breakthrough didn’t arrive despite the half openings later in the contest, as the duo shared the spoils in Cape Town.
