Baroka FC followed up their draw with Mamelodi Sundowns with a 1-0 victory over Polokwane City in the Absa Premiership on Saturday afternoon.
Nicholas Motloung, who left early against Cape Town City, started for Rise and Shine, but George Chigova missed out through injury while Goodman Mosele replaced the suspended Matome Kgoetyane for Bakgaga.
Polokwane, who started life without Zlatko Krmpotic following his dismissal on Friday, went behind as early as the seventh minute through a finish from Prince Nxumalo.
Rise and Shine pushed for a reply soon thereafter but their front men, led by Chartlon Mashumba who netted a midweek hat-trick, failed to inspire the side to a telling effect.
The visiting side remained strongly in the contest despite the pressure coming their way from the home side as the first spell drew to a conclusion.
Polokwane threatened gradually towards a comeback in the earlier minutes of the second half, whilst the visitors hanged on to their advantage with the two sides unchanged.
Wedson Nyirenda’s charges seemed not fazed by the pressure provided by the home side, and in fact posed danger of their own with a pacey counterattacking conundrum.
The Zambian-born mentor managed the game effectively in the final 15 minutes with the introduction of Thomas Madigoe who came in for Orebotse Mongae.
That did just enough to give the away side their third victory of the campaign that moves the side off the bottom two. Meanwhile, Rise and Shine have slipped to a sixth successive loss in all competitions.
