Maritzburg United registered a second successive victory after edging Baroka FC 1-0 in the Absa Premiership at Harry Gwala Stadium.
The Team of Choice made two changes from their win over Chippa United, as Nazeer Allie and Bongokuhle Hlongwane were drafted into the line-up, while Bakgaga also made similar alterations from their loss against Kaizer Chiefs, as Matome Kgoetyane and Martin Nsimbi earned starts.
The sides were not willing to press high in the early stages, settling for patient build-ups from the back, which resulted in little chances created.
Eric Tinkler's charges were making headway midway through the first stanza as Mxolisi Kunene had their best chance eight minutes before the break after breaking away towards goal but his shot was blocked at a crucial moment.
Maritzburg started the second stanza on the front foot and they eventually broke the deadlock six minutes in, courtesy of Kunene, whose effort inside the box was helped over the line by a deflection.
Tinkler wanted more goals but he had seen enough of Jeremy Brockie and replaced the New Zealand striker with Judas Moseamedi, who had a good chance to get the second goal in the last 15 minutes after going through on goa, but eh missed the target inside the six-yard box.
The game was getting on the edge in the closing phase, but in the end Eric Tinkler's managed to hold on for back-to-back wins, while Bakgaga lost their third straight match in the league.
