Five-star Celtic embarrass Arrows

Premiership

Bloemfontein Celtic dismantled Golden Arrows 5-0 to register their first victory in the Absa Premiership this season.

Arrows were unchanged from their derby win over Maritzburg United, while former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane made his debut for the hosts.

Celtic struck after 40 seconds when Ndumiso Mabena ran at the defence before firing into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

Menzi Masuku upped the ante on 13 minutes when he sliced through the defence to beat Edmore Sibanda at the near-post. Arrows looked for a quick reply on 20 minutes, but Gladwin Shitolo skied over the top from a far-post corner.

Steve Komphela restructured their all-round approach on the half-hour mark, as Siyabonga Dube made way for Knox Mutizwa.

In expert fashion, Mabokgwane plucked Danny Venter’s curler from the top corner on 32 minutes after ricocheting off the defence.

Celtic heaped more misery on the visitors when Mabena set-up Harris Tchilimbou to fire into the far corner with the last kick of the half for the hosts' third goal.

Mabena came close to a second with a low shot inside the area, but Sibanda pulled down to make a save five minutes later.

Celtic’s free-scoring reign continued 55 minutes in after Mzwanele Mahashe dropped to the shoulder of the area to nod past Sibanda.

After threatening relentlessly, Fikizolo broke through the defensive lines to blast beyond Sibanda from close-range in the final 11 minutes.

Phunya Sele Sele came close to a sixth as full-time dawned, but were forced to settle for a five-goal haul in the end.
