SuperSport United left it late to see off Bidvest Wits 1-0 at the Bidvest Stadium on Friday evening.
Thulani Hlatshwayo returned to captain the Clever Boys with last week’s four-goal hero Gift Motupa leading the attack, as Luke Fleurs retained his spot at the heart of United’s defence.
Wits launched the first threat six minutes from kick-off after Sameehg Doutie fired a snap shot from the edge of the area, but Ronwen Williams palmed for a corner.
Doutie’s evening however ended and was replaced by Elias Pelembe after 18 minutes following an injury.
Both sides pushed to get the front foot just before the break, but the final execution amidst the chances created had either side at the crossroads in this regard.
The second half started on a lighter note after the visitors struggled to crack the whip from an attacking capacity, whilst the hosts caused a havoc at the other end.
Pelembe came close to haunting the side that introduced him to South African football 10 minutes into the second half, but his shot from the edge of the area flew over the top.
Matsatsantsa introduced the first substitution following the 67th minute mark, as Teboho Mokoena paved the way for Jamie Webber.
Wits almost had the lead in the final eight minutes through Terrence Dzvukamanja’s, but Williams rallied to stop the ball reaching the far corner.
However, Matsatsantsa stole the victory right at the death when Sipho Mbule headed into the bottom corner following a pin-point cross from the right.
The victory extends SuperSport's unbeaten run to five matches and also the MTN8 champions leapfrog the Clever Boys into third spot.
