Bidvest Wits cemented second spot in the Absa Premiership with a 2-1 victory over Stellenbosch at the Bidvest Stadium no Wednesday evening.
The newly promoted side, who failed to win their opening three games, handed a debut to defender Nyiko Mobbie, who joined the club on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns. However, the Clever Boys suffered a blow after just four minutes when Scottish striker Simon Murray was forced with an injury after a collision with Mobbie.
Stellenbosch looked lively as the half went on, with Ryan Moon causing a couple problems in the opposing box while Nkanyiso Zungu went close with an effort from distance just before the 20-minute mark.
The visitors were nearly gifted the opening goal shortly before the break when Thulani Hlatshwayo's mistake at the gave Iqraam Rayners an opening but the striker sent his effort over the target.
The second half continued in similar fashion to the first, which ultimately saw Stellies coach Steve Barker re-shuffle the pack as Zungu made way for Lelethu Skelem on the hour mark.
With 20 minutes to go, it was the Clever Boys who got the opening goal as Hlatshwayo nodded home a cross from Thabang Monare for their first goal on home soil this season.
The hosts' joy was short-lived as Stellenbosch levelled matters a minute later as Marc van Heerden's cross was deflected into the back of the net by Wits' Hlatshwayo.
However, Gift Motupa saved Wits and Hlatshwayo's blushes after netting the winning goal with two minutes remaining as the Clever Boys claimed their first home win.
