Gallants: 'Ja neh, we are in trouble here'

Marumo Gallants FC chairman Abram Sello has broken his silence on reports regarding the future of head coach Dylan Kerr.

Kerr is said to be unhappy with the club's attempts at cutting his salary amid negotiations over a new contract.

As reported by this website on Thursday evening, Gallants are said to be eyeing former Real Madrid assistant coach Pablo Franco Martin as Kerr's replacement.

The former Black Leopards and Baroka mentor took over in February and managed not only to steer the club to safety but also deliver its first piece of silverware in their first year of existence.

"Kerr is still our coach, remember we still have a contract with him. It's just for us to discuss the issue of the option now," Sello tells KickOff.com.

"We are busy with him and the agent, but everything is running well. Unless anything changes... His contract was suppose to expire on the 30th of June, but we've already started talking to him since we are exchanging offers and all those things.

"So far I don't know anything, we are still happy with him. As I speak, he's still our coach. We still have our coach and we want to continue with him, and we are exercising the option and the renewal of the contract.

"Maybe they [reports] confuse the two. So far that's where we stand now. Remember, since he took over on the 1st of February, he took a long time to sign the contract and after that there was an issue of work permit.

"So, we have to make it [contract] longer now. He did a good job, we are proud of him. We would like to see his full potential for the full season, because we only had him for four months.

"So, everybody needs to be given a chance. With what we've got as a result for last season, we've got no complaints, we are very much happy. Excited, actually – The Nedbank Cup and position 12, with everybody having written us off."

Asked about the Spanish coach linked with the job, Sello remained coy as he responded: "What is his name? Ja neh, we are in trouble here, neh??"
