15 PSL stars book AFCON tickets


Bafana Bafana may have missed out on AFCON qualification but a host of PSL stars will be heading to Cameroon next year.

South African stumbled at the final hurdle after a 2-0 defeat to Sudan in Khartoum on Sunday evening which marked the fourth failure in the last seven qualification stages.

However, some of the biggest names in the domestic league of South Africa will still be heading to the continental showpiece after 18 of the 24 secured the spot before the final fixtures today.

Zimbabwe will boast the bulk of the talent with Terrence Dzvukamanja, Kudakwashe Mahachi and Onismor Bhasera, who paid for his own flight last week to represent the Warriors, all part of the group who qualified alongside Algeria.

Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat missed out on international duty through injury but as one of their most important players he will be expected to make the trip.

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori who also missed out on facing Bafana Bafana and Sao Tome en Principe this week has earned the number one jersey with Ghana - who qualified with Sudan at Bafana's expense.

Meanwhile, Badra Ali Sangaré of JDR Stars in the GladAfrica Championship was part of the recent Ivory Coast squad and has been a regular call-up since making his senior debut in 2016.

Frédéric Nsabiyumva of Chippa United is another name that could still feature if Burundi can shock Morocco in Rabat this evening while Mauritania fail to earn points away to the Central African Republic.

Manuel Kambala of Baroka and veteran winger Elias Pelembe also still have a slim chance with Mozambique with a win needed at home to in-form Cape Verde to join hosts Cameroon to qualify from Group F
