Bartlett turns down Maritzburg offer

The Team of Choice are on hunt for a new coach after recently parting ways with Clive Barker, with Fadlu Davids serving as interim coach for the time being, leading the Team of Choice to a spirited draw against Platinum Stars over the weekend.

Bartlett, who lead Arrows to promotion from the National First Division last season, is desperate to have a crack in coaching again, but sources close to reveal he has turned down the chance to coach at KwaZulu-Natal’s other top-flight team.

It is believed that the former Bafana Bafana international does not have faith in working alongside United’s team manager Quinton Jetto, who has an influential role at the club.

Barlett’s refusal paves the way for Ernest Middendorp, who on Monday resigned from Free State Stars, to make a return to the club, with the German reportedly leaving his post to avail himself for the United job.

Other coaches reportedly in the mix are suspended Chippa United coach Roger Sikhakhane, Mike Wotte of Netherlands and former New Zealand coach Ricky Herbert.

Meanwhile, Maritzburg on Friday confirmed that they have released two Brazilian staff members, fitness trainer Marco Munhoz and goalkeeper coach Paulo Evangelist, with immediate effect.
