The South African winger, who turned 25 on Monday, was named in his side’s starting line-up against Ligue II opponents Lorient in their knockout encounter on Wednesday night, a match which turned out to be a seven-goal thriller as Montpellier rallied from 2-1 down to emerge 4-3 victors at full-time.
Having featured for the Montpellier first team only once over the last three months of 2017, this was Dolly’s fifth appearance this month across all competitions for his side, racking up valuable minutes as he continues to prove his worth in France.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns star came on as a substitute in a league meeting against giants AS Monaco earlier this month, before starting in his side’s 1-1 draw with Amiens last week. He has been used more regularly in the cup competitions, coming on off the bench in a 1-0 Coupe de la Ligue victory over Angers two weeks ago, while featuring in both Montpellier’s French Cup fixtures this month.
Elsewhere, compatriot Lebogang Phiri was handed just his seventh start this campaign across all competitions for Guingamp, as they faced off against heavyweights PSG in their French Cup tie. The South African played the full 90 minutes against Edinson Cavani and co., but unfortunately ended up on the losing side in a 4-2 defeat to the Parisians.
Following Thursday night’s last knockout tie between Strasbourg and Lille, the draw for the Last 16 will take place as Dolly’s Montpellier wait to see who they will face. The Last 16 ties will take place on 6/7 February.
