The 26-year-old has gone without any game-time for Ajax Amsterdam this season but an escape looks on the cards after an approach from the Championship club, coached by former Ajax defender Jaap Stam.
“I have indeed spoken to his agent (Nana Tutu) and asked about the possibility,” said Reading’s football director Brian Tevreden.
“Jaap Stam thinks Thulani is a really good player but we also have to make sure his signing does not block the path of any of the youngsters at the club who are coming through. That is why he haven’t taken any firm decision yet.”
Serero is coming to the end of his contract and is free from the end of the season onwards. The only concern for the Soweto-born player will be to make the same kind of money he has been earning in the Netherlands, around R6-milion per year.
Serero has been training on his own on the sidelines of the Ajax reserves.
