Dolly gets going in France

Having not featured for Montpellier in the league since September, Dolly was handed a rare appearance over the weekend, coming off the bench and even slotting home a penalty in a French Cup shoot-out victory over Pontarlier.

The 24-year-old was again included in his side’s match day squad, and came off the bench for the last 21 minutes with Montpellier deadlocked at 0-0 in their quarter-final showdown away at Ligue 1 rivals Angers.

Yet with four minutes to go, Belgian substitute Issac Mbenza, introduced at the same time as Dolly, netted the crucial decider as Montpellier emerged 1-0 victors, securing their passage into the last four of the tournament.

Dolly was understandably delighted with his side’s result, taking to social media to tweet:

Montpellier now face giants AS Monaco in the last four, with Dolly hoping his consecutive outings in cup competitions will work in his favour in trying to crack into his club’s league squad, for which he only has four appearances so far this season.

Elsewhere in the Coupe de la Ligue, Bongani Zungi was absent through injury as his Amiens side crashed out of the tournament following a 2-0 loss to heavyweights PSG, who face Kermit Erasmus’s Stade Rennes in the semi-finals after their 4-2 win over Toulouse.

Erasmus has yet to feature for his French club this campaign, having made just two appearances for the reserve team in November.
