Pitso: Al Ahly will come back stronger

Pitso Mosimane

Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has reacted after losing out on the Egyptian Premier League title to fierce rivals Zamalek on Tuesday.

The Red Devils' title-winning streak over the previous five consecutive seasons ended as Zamalek secured their 13th Egyptian Premier League crown after a 2-0 win over El Entag El Harby.

Ahly were held to a dramatic drew 3-3 thanks to a stoppage-time penalty by former White Knights forward Omar El Said. But the Al Ahly result proved irrelevant as Zamalek clinched the victory needed to be crowned as champions.

Mosimane praised his squad who he said were fatigued after a long season that included participation in the FIFA Club World Cup and CAF Champions League competitions.

"Al Ahly are a great team. We will turn the page and come back stronger," Mosimane said post-match.

"We suffered a lot from fatigue during the previous period as we kept playing for 10 consecutive months. We won the bronze medal of the FIFA Club World Cup, the CAF Super Cup title, and two CAF Champions League titles. We are human beings and it is normal to suffer from fatigue.

"We conceded many goals during our last games, especially while implementing a man-marking system. However, despite committing these mistakes, we put on good performances and achieved great results."

Mosimane added that it was an exceptionally successful season for his side after their numerous accolades.

"We accomplished many achievements in the last 10 months," Mosimane added.

"We might have lost the Egyptian Premier League title, but we managed to achieve great things during the previous period.

"We are the biggest [contributor] of the Egypt national teams. Our players joined the Egypt National team in different competitions, with the most recent one being the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

"Finally, we have many upcoming challenges. We still have the Egyptian Cup, the CAF Super Cup, and the Egyptian Super Cup and we will fight to win them."
