How TS Galaxy are embracing Ndebele culture

TS Galaxy president Tim Sukazi reveals why it will always be important for the club to introduce their new signings to the Ndebele kingdom.

For the second consecutive season, The Rockets hosted their squad unveiling in the rural village of Ekosini in Kameelrivier near Siyabuswa.

Sukazi introduced nine players to the AmaNdebele Kingdom, Kameelrivier community and the media on Sunday.

Goalkeeper Vasilije Kolak and centre-back Igor Makitang were among the signings who arrived from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The other new recruits introduced on the day were Zolani Nkombela (Golden Arrows), Xolani Silawula (Uthongathi FC), Marathe Ndieguene (Senegal), Mohammed Anas (Black Leopards), Mthobisi Mngomezulu (Uthongathi FC), Augustine Kwem (Chippa United).

Captain Pogiso Sanoka was also unveiled, even though he arrived in January.

"Recognising the contribution you know by our players last season, so we thought it would be befitting to have or rather have that being done, this kind of an event, you know in front of our people and certainly the media so that people would know that TS Galaxy we reward performance, and we certainly recognise every single person to the growth of this club," Sukazi told the media on Sunday.

"In my humble opinion, it is a bit confusing when an announcement is made today, tomorrow and another one and another one. Rather conclude your business and most importantly, come to your roots.

"It's not only TS Galaxy that so much recognises culture, but I think even our government. That's why even their department is referred to as the Department of Sports, Culture and Recreation. It talks to it. It's exactly what we are doing here at this club.

"But certainly, we are the first and the only club to recognise our traditional leadership, to embrace them and bring them to the platform of football. It was as though in the past years before TS Galaxy happened, it was as though there was no traditional leadership in this country. Meanwhile there is from walks of life, if you are a black person in this country, you do have your roots somewhere somehow in connection with traditional leadership."

TS Galaxy begin their season with a league encounter against Kaizer Chiefs at the Mbombela Stadium on August 22.

The action gets under way at 17:00.
