Zim PSL duo ruled out of Bafana clash

Zimbabwe will face Bafana Bafana in Friday’s 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup qualifier without two of their PSL stars due to covid-19 related issues.

Golden Arrows forward Knox Mutizwa and Butholezwe Ncube of AmaZulu have both failed to join camp after testing positive while en route to Harare to join the Warriors squad.

They have since gone in isolation and will not be available for the game against Ethiopia as well next week.

The Zimbabwe Football Association has confirmed the absence of the two.

Mutizwa – who has scored two goals in four appearances for Arrows so far this season – was not in the initial squad but was called up to provide options in attack where Tino Kadewere of French club Lyon will lead the line assisted by Khama Billiat and Knowledge Musona.

Ncube is yet to feature for Usuthu this term.

Prior to Mutizwa and Ncube being ruled out, The Warriors were already without another eleven players that they had originally called up for this match.

Marvellous Nakamba of English Premiership club Aston Villa along with Tendai Darikwa of Wigan Athletic, Bournemouth’s Jordan Zemura, Brendan Galloway (Plymouth Argyle), Ethan Kachosa (Sunderland), Macauley Bonne (Ipswich Town), Admiral Muskwe at Luton Town and David Moyo who plays for Hamilton Academical in Scotland all couldn’t travel due to the stringent covid-19 travel restrictions in the United Kingdom when travelling from red-listed countries.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Teenage Hadebe will also not be available as his struggling MLS club Houston Dynamo have chosen to hold on to him due to the same covid-19 issues while Ovidy Karuru and Jimmy Dzingai also cluldnt make it.

Bafana have already also suffered a similar fate with Thabiso Kutumela and Thibang Phete also ruled out due to positive covid results.
