The goal was scored by Brent Carelse in the first-half.
SuperSport got off to a perfect start and scored with their first attempt at goal in the eighth minute of play.
Lemessa Fikru collected a cross from the right flank and laid it into the path of Carelse, who was positioned on the edge of AmaZulu’s goal area. The midfielder let rip with a powerful drive that deflected off defender Pere Ariweriyai and past a stranded Mbongeni Mzimela playing in goals.
Bongani Mbele tested the agility of SuperSport’s goalkeeper – Wayne Brown – five minutes later with a swerving free-kick from the right channel. Brown tipped the ball to safety.
Mbele sent in another free-kick into SuperSport’s goal area in the 24th minute – this time from a corner kick – an unmarked Belux Kasonga was unable to direct his header on target.
AmaZulu pressed hard for the remaining minutes of the half, hoping to find a route to goal, but to no avail. Morgan Gould – last season’s PSL Player of the Season – and Bafana Bafana regular Bongani Khumalo were outstanding in defence for the visitors.
The home side continued to boss the possession stakes in the second half but was just not able to get past SuperSport’s defensive wall.
AmaZulu eventually got a shot on target in the 68th minute when Lehlohonolo Majoro, who came on as a substitute in the second half, tried his luck with a long range strike but it flew straight into the arms of Brown.
SuperSport made a rare foray into the AmaZulu penalty area in the 76th minute which resulted in Thandani Ntshumayelo drawing a fine one handed save from Mzimela with a well placed header.
The visitors could have went further ahead, a minute from time, when Dipsy Selolwane was picked out in the AmaZulu box by a Tshepo Bulu cross, but he shot wide.
