SuperSport United’s title race remains on track following a hard-earned win over Santos at the Athlone Stadium.
The game ignited after 10 minutes when a superb move involving Brent Carelse, Daine Klate and Anthony Laffor saw the Liberian’s header tipped over the bar.
And from Jabu Maluleke’s 11th minute corner, United found themselves in front as Ricardo Katza netted with a header.
The champions were 2-0 up in the 30th minute as some uncertainty from Tshepo Motsoeneng allowed Dario Monteiro to convert a simple chance.
Santos looked dead and buried at that stage but they came back to hit the woodwork through Graham King’s 36th minute effort before scoring in the 39th minute as Tyren Arendse tapped home Phikolethu Spelman’s cross.
It took a while for second half action to heat up as United tried to slow the game down.
It was certainly Santos who ended the match the stronger side, having chances through King, Spelman and a late header by Musa Otieno, but United survived to take the points despite having Letladi Madubanya sent off in the 75th minute.
