Hlanti out to please Chiefs fans

News

Kaizer Chiefs new signing Sifiso Hlanti is determined to contribute to future success despite being aware of the challenges facing the club.

Hlanti's move to Naturena was delayed by a year after Chiefs' two-window transfer ban forced the defender to spend a season at Swallows FC.

The 31-year-old is now aiming to prove an asset to the Soweto giants moving forward and put an end to their six-year trophy drought.

"We know what it takes to be successful, and we are aware of the expectations that come with being in this team," Hlanti was quoted by the club website.

"We also know that there are many challenges, but once you respond with a positive mentality, you can achieve a lot. We understand that it is all about our supporters being happy.

"As players, we need to show hunger and reward them by winning because we know how much they love Chiefs," Hlanti added.

"I always have a positive mentality, and I hope this season is going to be far better than the previous one for us.

"I know that the guys didn't manage to get what they were looking for last season, but they did try their best given the circumstances, which included reaching the Champions League final."

Hlanti then shared his delight at finally realising his dream move in finalising his transfer to Chiefs.

"I am delighted I am here with the team, and I also want to thank the management, the coaches and the players for welcoming me with warm hands. It's important not to forget all the supporters who have been with Chiefs through thick and thin.

"I am looking forward to seeing myself being part of the team as much as I can. The mentality I have is positive. What matters the most for me is being a respectful person and knowing the task of being in a team like Kaizer Chiefs.

Kaizer Chiefs is a big brand – we all know, and I respect that. As a footballer, I am positive about everything, and I know there will be a lot of challenges and expectations but what matters the most is how I react and respond.

Kaizer Chiefs get their 2020/2021 campaign under way with an MTN8 quarter-final clash against Sundowns on August 15.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
