Royal Eagles want venue change

Eagles relocated from Durban to Pietermaritzburg two years ago and have been playing their home games at Harry Gwala Stadium, the venue which is also used by PSL side Maritzburg United.

Eagles have now applied to the PSL to have their home games played at SJ Smith in Wema next season although the venue still has to pass the PSL requirements.

''They [Eagles] have made an application and I'm going to inspect it,'' PSL COO Ronnie Schloss said during a recent safety and security meeting at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium.

SJ Smith, in the district of Lamontville – where Mpisane was born – is in the Chatsworth suburb and it was upgraded in 2008 in order to comply with FIFA standards for training venues ahead of the 2010 World Cup.

The upgrading of the stadium cost R18.8-million.

The stadium was previously the home venue of then-Vodacom sides Durban Stars and African Wanderers in 2010/11.

Eagles were previously using King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi as their home which is the now the home venue of AmaZulu.
