PEC Zwolle invite two SA teens

Luke le Roux and Aden Philander were identified by PEC Zwolle technical director Gerard Nijkamp during his trip to Stellenbosch earlier in the year and the pair will travel to Holland during the October school holidays.

Jason Rhoda has been identified as the Stellenbosch University High Performance Football Programme coach who will accompany the players and this will serve as a fantastic learning and coaching development opportunity.

“I am incredibly excited and very blessed to be given an opportunity like this. I intend on making the most of this trip and bringing back knowledge and experience which can but only benefit the local Stellenbosch football environment,” says Rhoda.

Le Roux is a 14-year-old midfielder from Luckhoff High School while Philander is also 14 and is from Bergvliet High School.

“We are very excited for the boys as well as for Jason as this does indicate that we are on the right track when it comes to developing players for the highest level,” says Football High Performance manager Warren Engelbrecht.

“It is not going to be easy for the players as they will need to adapt to new weather conditions, culture, language and playing style. We are however confident that both Luke and Aden will do us proud and we are thankful to PEC Zwolle for making this a reality.”

Bafana Bafana midfielder Kamohelo Mokotjo recently left PEC for FC Twente, but not before he helped them lift the Dutch Cup and the Dutch Super Cup.

Another South African, Dean Patricio, is still on the books of Zwolle but has not yet become a first team regular.
