Opperman signs for Vasco

Opperman has just returned from a failed trial at Icelandic club IBV Vestmannaeyiar.

Opperman signed last night (Tuesday) after having done enough to make an impression on coach Carlos das Neves in the week that he trained with the team.

“I signed for one season and my contract will expire in June next year,” says Opperman.

“I am really happy with the terms of my contract. I have already been training here for a week and am now looking forward to playing. Hopefully, I will be registered before the weekend game so that I become eligible to play,” says Opperman.

After a good start in which they hammered Cape Town neighbours Hanover Park, Vasco will again be up against another city rival in FC Cape Town at Parow Park on Saturday.

Vasco sold their First Division status to FC Cape Town two years ago.

The 25-year-old Opperman, who has been capped at all levels of junior football, spent last season at Ikapa Sporting before leaving following what he terms as financial differences with the club.

Prior to that, Opperman had seen game time at Ajax Cape Town as a teenager before moving to Moroka Swallows, after a stint with Avendale Athletic.

Opperman’s former teammate at Ikapa Sporting, Giovanni Rector, is also training at Vasco.

Rector also went for trials in Iceland with Opperman last month and returned home empty-handed.
