NFF officials were considering offers from both the two countries for a friendly game during that Fifa window, but were compelled to choose the Ghana friendly after consultation with the players and coach. It seems that the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing at Safa again with conflicting reports on who Bafana Bafana’s opponents will be on August 10, Burkina Faso or Nigeria. Yesterday, Safa boss Kirten Nematandani announced that Bafana will tackle the Super Eagles on August 10 which caused confusion as there was no reference to a previous disclosure that Pitso Mosimane’s squad would be playing Burkina Faso on that day. However, a later statement by a top Nigerial official appears to have cleared the air on the proposed Nigerian game. “The players were not comfortable with making the long trip from Europe to the south of Africa and back just days before the start of a new season,” he said. “It is easier for them to play in Europe, and then return to their clubs. We had to listen to them so it is just a matter of concluding the arrangements with Ghana.” It now remains to be seen whether the previous arrangements of the game against Burkina Faso on August 10 are still in place.
