The product of the Stars of Africa Academy has had a fairy tale rise to stardom having only played in the Vodacom League prior to moving to Europe. He made his debut for Helsingborgs in August 2009 on the back of signing a three-year deal with the club and though his contract was only due to expire in July 2012, the midfielder has penned a new two-year extension that will now see his contract expire in December 2013. "I have just signed for two more years and now my contract will expire in December 2013," Mahlangu confirms to KickOff.com. Helsingborgs sporting director Jesper Jansson says: "We are extremely pleased that May will stay with us. He is a very good football player who we will greatly benefit the team in the future." Mahlangu started out at Osters IF in Sweden's Third Division, where he played alongside Jabu Mahlangu before moving to Helsingborgs, after he impressed the latter club in a friendly match. To say the Helsingborgs fans are happy with Mahlangu's decision to commit to their club would perhaps be an understatement, judging by the messages they have been posting on the 22-year-old's Facebook page. Per Olof Bergsten says, "Great news, May! Made my day!" and Jimmy Mogrip adding that, "Thank YOU! for signing a new contract. We´re gonna need you when we travel out to Europe for Europe League! The fans are very grateful for this!" Another fan, Jonas Wendrup says Helsingborgs fans are looking forward to watching the Secunda-born Mahlangu continue to turn out for the club. "Thank you for giving us a chance to see more of you in the most beautiful club colours!" One of the reasons Mahlangu is revered at the club is the fact that he helped Helsingborgs to a 1-0 victory over Hammarby in the Swedish Cup Final in November last year, which was Mahlangu's first career piece of silverware. He has so far made 38 appearances and scored four goals for the Swedes.
