Mkhabela wins it for Dikwena

It is a seventh win in eight games for the in-form Dikwena, who achieved the success without two of their stalwarts this season in the suspended Vuyo Mere and injured Benson Mhlongo.

Each team ended the match with 10 men as Mohammed Awal and Sibusiso Msomi were both sent off for second yellow cards.

Enocent Mkhabela powered home a header for the only goal on the game in the second half.

The home side, however, had the better of the first half chances, with Delron Buckley and Awal forcing saves from Siyabonga Mpontshane, while Cuthbert Malajila fired a shot over goal.

The key moment of the game came on 50 minutes when Awal was dismissed for a challenge on Tintswalo Tshabalala, and just moments later Stars went ahead, when Patrick Malokase swung in a corner and Mkhabela headed home for his third goal of the season.

There was just one side in it after that, but after Mkhabela, Malokase and Msomi had all forced great saves from Shu-Aib Walters, they were given some nervy moments as Msomi received his marching orders.

But Dikwena held on for an excellent away win and Cavin Johnson will be pleased too with the clean-sheet, their sixth this season.

Next up for Maritzburg is a trip to Cape Town to face Ajax on Friday, while Stars are at home to Golden Arrows a day later.
