Masilela, who celebrated his 20th birthday on Saturday, has been admitted to Glenwood Hospital in Benoni for treatment.
The Peugeot 203 that Masilela was driving on his way home is a complete write-off.
According to former TUKS teammate George Maluleka, the youngster suffered a double fracture in one leg in the thigh area and could be out of football for at least eight months, which means he may have to wait another year to make his PSL debut.
“I went to see him (on Wednesday) and he looked still in shock. He couldn’t talk much because of the medication for the pain, but I understand that he will undergo an operation on Friday,” Maluleka told KickOff.com.
The youthful winger-cum-striker was signed by the Premiership champions at the beginning of the season from TUKS, but was then loaned back to the First Division side.
However, with the First Division season ending in early April, Masilela had already been training with United up to the time the PSL season ended a fortnight ago.
Masilela, who formed a deadly partnership with Maluleka at TUKS, is contracted to United until June 2010.
