It has for some months been touted that the Merseyside duo had been earmarked to make an appearance in the Mother City, while The Magpies have also been throw into the mix, along with Fulham.
KickOff.com has since obtained the proposed dates for matches, with the Liverpool one being a one-off against Ajax Cape Town on May 21.
Everton and Newcastle are then set to join the Urban Warriors in a pre-season tournament in July, similar in structure to the now redundant Vodacom Challenge. The dates are as follows:
Newcastle United vs Ajax Cape Town (July 20)
Newcastle vs Everton (July 24)
Everton vs Ajax Cape Town (July 27)
When approached by KickOff.com, Ajax CEO George Comitis said he “would love to comment, but can’t at this stage”, while efforts to get hold of the event organisers proved futile.
Cape Town spokesman Grant Pascoe confirms all of the above, but says it is all subject to the council signing off the costs and ‘various other rigorous processes’ that need to be improved.
“But yes, we have had very favourable discussions with Liverpool over an end-of-season tour,” he confirms.
It is thought that Fulham might take part in the Manguang tournament in the Free State, along with Portuguese club Benfica, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
