Liverpool close in on Nigeria youngster

The 20-year-old Sporting Lisbon centre-back, who was born in to an Anglo-Nigerian father and a Portuguese mother, is keen to make a switch to the Merseysider’s before the end of the month having already agreed personal terms with the English giants.

Sporting value the youngster at over £4m, but Liverpool are willing to get their man for about a million less than Sporting's asking price.

Ilori who was born in England but plays for Portugal at the Under-20 level is also eligible to play for Nigeria.

If the deal eventually pulls through Ilori will team up with another highly-rated Nigerian youngster, 17-year-old midfielder Jordan Ibe who started in Liverpool's 1-0 win over relegated QPR in the final game of the season.
