Khune – ‘Confeds Cup helped me’

Khune saved one penalty from Bennett Chenene while three other Pirates players, Benson Mhlongo Dikang Mabalane and Lucky Lekgwathi, missed their kicks in the Vodacom Challenge penalty shootout in Port Elizabeth.   “You see, from the 85th minute I started delaying the game because I knew that when it goes to penalties, I would make up to two saves. I was confident and it happened just as I thought it would,” he tells   The Bafana Bafana number one said that when Pirates players were about to take penalties, the crowd encouraged him do to do well.   “I thank the crowd for their support. They made me do all I could to make them happy. They played a major part in my saving the penalty and the other players missing theirs. It was tough, but at the end of the day my experience from the Confederations Cup helped me,” Khune said.   “After saving that penalty against [David] Villa, I knew I could save anyone’s penalty, so I am not scared. That is why when they retake a penalty I am still confident.”
