Chiefs agree to sell Nahayo

The Burundi international left Naturena for Belgium last week for trials and, according to our sources, Chiefs have already started lining up a replacement, with the likes of Bidvest Wits captain Tefu Mashamaite, SuperSport United defender Morgan Gould and Nasief Morris all touted as possible replacements.

Nahayo spent five days with Gent, but has since returned for the AmaKhosi’s crucial League match against AmaZulu this Saturday.

KickOff.com has been informed that the defender impressed during his spell overseas, but Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung would not confirm nor deny anything.

“The chances for him to go are 50-50, but it depends on the team overseas obviously,” Motaung says. “But I was informed that it wasn’t a trial, it was just a team getting to know him to see whether he will fit in their set-up, so we will wait and see.

“We haven’t discussed or decided on anything, but if he does go obviously we will be looking around as a matter of emergency. I’m just waiting for the coach next week to sit down with me and say ‘these are my plans for next season and these are the players we can probably look at’.

“Once that is done then we will be able to announce VV’s plan.”

However, KickOff.com’s sources say Chiefs have already made an enquiry with Wits for Mashamaite and that the Students are willing to sell him provided the Soweto club come up with a better offer.
