Ea Lla Koto’s goals were scored by Dove Wome and Paulus Masehe, while Phunya Sele Sele’s consolation was netted by Lennox Bacela.
The first 45 minutes saw the home side completely dictating terms as they controlled the midfield battle.
Still, despite Stars passing the ball around nicely and controlling matters on the pitch they were unable to create any clear cut chances on goal with the final pass often going astray.
That was until the ninth minute when Wome picked up the ball outside the box after a good passing movement. The Togolese international, 25-yards-out from goal, fired the ball into the top-right corner of the net to score Stars first goal of the match and give them the lead, 1-0.
Thereafter, Stars continued to pile on the pressure but they were wasteful in front of goal. However, matters got even worse when Celtic fell a second goal behind in the first minute of the second stanza.
Stemmer fumbled as he tried to save Mpho Makola’s free kick, and the ball fell on the way of Masehe who made no mistake blasting the ball home from close range – and putting the result of the game beyond doubt, 2-0.
Celtic were able to find a consolation goal by Bacela 21 minutes before the final whistle, but it was too little too late as the damage was already done by the hosts. Stars defended well to protect their lead and they were deserved winners at the end of the match.
