Former Kaizer Chiefs star Lucky Maselesele dies

Former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Lucky Maselesele has reportedly died on Friday at the age of 41.

Details on the cause of death of the Alexander-born Maselesele have not yet been confirmed.

Maselesele enjoyed a decorated professional career which began in 1998 after being promoted to the Kaizer Chiefs, senior first-team squad.

The 41-year-old can be fondly remembered for scoring important goals against rivals Orlando Pirates in the Vodacom Challenge and Telkom Charity Cup.

Maselesele – a midfielder converted to a striker - also featured for other clubs such as Manning Rangers, Thanda Royal Zulu, FC AK and Black Leopards.

Contacted for a comment, close friend and former team-mate Isaac Mabotsa confirmed his death in a short statement.

"I can confirm yes that it's true," a devastated Mabotsa tells Kickoff.com.

"Can I just request that the media give us space at this present moment in time to come to terms with this loss?"
