Both teams decided to congest the midfield, making for a somewhat stagnant encounter.
Supersport were the more mobile in the first half, and had the upper hand. They were the first to pose a threat, when Elias Pelembe struck a shot just over the crossbar in the 12th minute.
Wits had a chance in the 29th minute, when Noah Chivuta curled in a free kick which was just tipped over the bar by Denis Onyango.
In the second half, Letladi Madubanya missed Supersport’s best chance of the game when he hurried his shot and failed to beat Moeneeb Josephs from just ten metres out.
Kermit Erasmus made it another disappointing miss for Supersport when he missed a sitter in the 58th. He got on the end of a pass from Pelembe and, face to face with the keeper, he stumbled, beat the keeper, but in the time that elapsed the defence had caught up with him and the shot was blocked. He struck again on the rebound, but the shot went into the side netting.
Wits took control of the game after that, but Supersport had yet another scoring chance in the 86th minute. Josephs spilled a Katlego Mashego shot, only for Daine Klate, surprisingly, to shoot over the crossbar from six metres out.
