CR7 to earn double Bale’s salary

Details of the new deal have not been released, but Spanish media reports suggest Ronaldo will become the country’s highest-paid player.

The 28-year-old will reportedly earn £15-million a year after tax and before bonuses, almost double record signing Gareth Bale’s £8.3-million a season and £850,000 more per season than Lionel Messi at Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The 2008 World Player of the Year and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will appear at a ceremony at the Bernabeu stadium later today.

Ronaldo, who has 203 goals in as many games for Madrid, said he was “sad” at the club last September, and hinted that he wanted out.

The new deal is designed to sooth his bruised ego at no longer being the world’s most expensive player.
