Tlou Segolela scored the first, before substitute Patrick Malokase came on in the second half to score a brace, confirming his side’s victory and most likely their survival in the PSL.
The men from Bloemfontein knew before they started the match that they would have to win their game if they wanted to stand any chance of surviving the horrors of possible relegation.
And clearly they did not want to rely on results in other matches going their way as they outplayed, out-skilled and emphatically defeated Umililo.
Celtic were the dominant team from the outset as they controlled possession and dictated the pace of the game. John Maduka was a rock in the midfield as his experience clearly showed in this important game.
Bay United struggled to get hold of the ball and looked like the side at the bottom of the PSL. One could tell that it wouldn’t be long before Celtic would break them down and score the opening goal.
The games first goal, however, did take longer to arrive than expected but it did eventually come in the 35th minute after waves of Celtic attack.
The goal came courtesy of Segolela after a wonderful passing movement found him with the ball only 12 yards out from goal. Segolela made no mistake in front of goal with a clinical finish into the bottom right hand corner, 1-0.
United were virtually non-existent during the first 45 minutes, while Shu-Aib Walters in the Celtic goal was a mere spectator.
In the second half Bay United began to find their footing in the game but their hopes of a fight back were crushed in the 65th minute when the referee rightly adjudged Rodrigue Ebongue to have pulled down Luphiwana Mayambela down inside the box and awarded a penalty.
Malokase stepped up to powerful smash the ball home from the spot, 2-0.
Three minutes later and the victory for Celtic was confirmed as Malokase grabbed his second goal when he pounced on a rebounded save to put his side 3-0 up.
From there on out Celtic were in complete control of the game as United retreated back into their shells hoping to concede no more goals.
Despite winning 3-0 Celtic are not assured of surviving the relegation play-off considering Thanda Royal Zulu also won their league match.
Any of Thanda, Celtic or Maritzburg United could still finish in the relegation play-off spot.
