In an exciting clash, the rivalry between the teams came to a head in the 15th minute when both sets of players were involved in a melee; this after Excellent Walaza kicked at Jonathan Mensah while he was on the floor.
As Mensah came to his feet he had to be held back as he chased Walaza and both players ended up collecting a caution from the referee.
Moses Spandeel wasted a great chance when he fired over on 37 minutes, while Moholo was even closer moments later when he ran onto Kleinbooi Taaibos’ pass and his shit beat keeper Patrick Tignyemb, only to come back off the upright.
It was Moholo who was at the forefront of the action as the second half got under way and it took him just three minutes to have the Celtic keeper at full stretch to push away his effort from a tight angle on the right.
The resulting corner saw Celtic somehow fail to adequately clear the ball and it eventually landed up hitting the hand of their defender Sambu, which resulted in Stars getting a penalty. However, Lechesa’s effort was wide – a costly miss as it turned out.
Sthembiso Ngcobo missed two great chances within three minutes, while Celtic substitute Sandile Ndlovu shot wide in a one-on-one with Kennedy Mweene and Mark Mayambela hit the side-netting.
However, there was to be a goal, and it came with four minutes to go when Segolela’s shot deflected off Mensah and past Mweene.
