Club legend Patrick Tignyemb is finally set to receive the substantial R3 million fee owed to him by former employers Bloemfontein Celtic.
The PSL has now taken the step of transferring the settlement amount personally to Tignyemb, which is due to reflect at the weekend to finally bring an end to the protracted legal drama.
Tignyemb’s legal representatives have in recent weeks escalated the matter to both the PSL and SAFA as they sought to force Celtic into paying the equivalent of US$200 715 (approximately R3 million).
The league has since made an obligation to deduct the money from Celtic’s monthly PSL grant as per instruction from the club.
"I attach proof of payment of the sum in question. Unfortunately, these sort of things (when they are processed before League tribunals) are sorted out pretty quickly because the internal process results in payment or automatic deduction. As this claim was not processed before the League tribunals but rather those of FIFA it was not as simple as that administratively.
"But Celtic were to instruct the League to make a deduction and payment and attached is proof of that. So thanks to Celtic for assisting in that. And thank you to you for drawing the matter to the League’s attention.
"It is an international payment so it may take a while to reflect. Please do confirm as soon as you are able to that the money has been received and the matter closed," reads communication from Michael Murphy, the league’s legal counsel.
Celtic had been previously banned from making any new signings for two transfer windows – as ordered by FIFA – after Tignyemb took up his unfair dismissal case with the world football governing body.
Tignyemb’s lawyer Johnny Precious Ogbah, head of sports law (Africa) at the Activity Chambers, has been at the forefront of the matter and was pushing for Celtic to be withdrawn from the league as they have violated the regulations.
FIFA made the decision in Tignyemb’s favour in October last year.
