Sono, Phali face new roles at Cosmos

Sono says he has earmarked his offspring for a role as team manager, while Phali will be the goalkeepers’ coach.

Bra J says this is just reward for the players for the commitment and loyalty they have shown over the years, particularly when the club was relegated two seasons ago.

The duo, alongside experienced defender and now communications head Lucky Mhlathe helped the club regain its Absa Premiership status.

For this they received the Chairman’s Award at the awards dinner held at the Emperors Palace in the East Rand on Saturday. The three players shared R60 000 among themselves.

“At Cosmos we believe in grooming players for future roles at the club once they retire. For example, Lucky is now the director of communications; Bamuza is the future team manager, while Phalli will be the goalkeepers’ coach,” says Sono.

Sono is famed for retaining players in managerial roles once their playing days are over. Among the former players that are still part of the team are Gerald Mtshali, who is Sono’s assistant, and former defender Andrew Rabutla, who is the team manager.
