Hunt laments injured spine

Nedbank Cup

Hunt will have to make do without the injured trio in Friday's Nedbank Cup last-32 tie with Bloemfontein Celtic at Bidvest Park (kick-off: 20h00).

"Vilakazi, Mahlambi and Faty are out injured. These are spine players in the team," Hunt said at a press conference at Sturrock Park on Wednesday morning.

"If you take Billiat, Kekana and Nthethe out the Sundowns team then you'll understand what I mean by the spine of a team.

Hunt is naturally eager for his side to impress in the lucrative competition.

"We would like to stay in all competitions this season.

"I've done well in this competition. It keeps your season going.

"Friday's game is very important. I can't tell the players to focus on the league only," added the three-time Premier Soccer League winner and 2012 Nedbank Cup victor.

The former Hellenic defender believes the Students have made progress this season. The Clever Boys are second on the Absa Premiership table with 42 points from 21 games - 10 points behind Mamelodi Sundowns, while they opened their CAF Confederation Cup campaign with a 9-0 aggregate humbling of Lightstars FC.

"We've won more than we've lost so I must say there is progress.

"We want to finish the season on a high. We have produced the most young players in South Africa this season."
