The visitors had a glorious opportunity to take the lead in the first half when Lyle Lakay struck a well-placed free-kick that got the beating of Tapuwa Kapini but not the upright.

Naturally, Highlands did not go down without a fight as Musa Nyatama headed home early in the second half but the linesman made a tight call denying them with the offside flag.

The Brazilians needed extra-time before substitute Keletso Makgalwa bagged the all important goal with under six minutes left on the clock to see his side escape the lottery of a penalty shootout.

They join Bidvest Wits, who beat Real Kings 4-0 on Friday night, and Baroka, who sent Black Leopards packing on Saturday, in the last four of the competition.

The only remaining fixture of the round will see GladAfrica Championship side TS Sporting up host Bloemfontein Celtic at KaNyamazane Stadium this afternoon (15h30).

Having earlier lifted the Telkom Knockout, the Tshwane side still have a shot at reclaiming the Absa Premiership title as they sit four points behind leaders Kaizer Chiefs with a game in hand.
