Malesela was admitted to hospital 10 days ago after complaining of back pains, forcing him to miss the Absa Premiership match against Bidvest Wits last week Tuesday, which ended in a goalless draw.
Luthando Zibeko, head of marketing and communications at the Chilli Boys, tells KickOff.com that Malesela has been back at work since Monday and will lead the bench tonight when they face Witbank Spurs in the Nedbank Cup last-32 at the Nelson Mandela Stadium [19h30 kick-off].
“The coach is back in business and actually started working on Monday, which is a welcome boost. The fans have also planned a song for him [titled] ‘uDan lo abamaziyo abazange bambone’,” Zibeko tells this website.
Malesela’s back problem was apparently caused by the heavy traveling that Chippa had to put up with, having played all of their last six games away from their base in Port Elizabeth.
In those six games, Chippa traveled to East London, then Bloemfontein, then back to East London, then Pretoria and Rustenburg before making a third trip to East London, all the while failing to win any of those outings.
However, Chippa now play at the same venue which saw them garner their last victory - over Baroka on February 7 - which bodes well for a side who have never gone past the last 32 of the Nedbank Cup, and who have lost to lower division opposition in the last two years.
The team did, however, also lose to Spurs at the same stage of this competition in 2011, and will tonight be minus Rhulani Manzini, Andile Mbenyane, Vusumuzi Ncube and Bongani Kama, who are all injured.
