Chiefs & Bucs secure big Diski wins

MultiChoice Diski Challenge

Kaizer Chiefs 4-0 Marumo Gallants FC

Kaizer Chiefs snapped their three-match losing run in the league through a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Marumo Gallants FC on Sunday.

Chiefs, who went down 5-4 to Royal AM in their first match of the year last Saturday, were two goals up at the break through Sibuliso Duba.

Mthokozisi Balakazi added to the equation in the middle of the second half before Duba bagged a third to complete his hat-trick that steered the Amakhosi back on the winning trail.

Swallows FC 1-5 Orlando Pirates

A star performance from Boitumelo Radiopane helped Orlando Pirates to sweep Swallows FC 5-1 in the DStv Diski Challenge on Saturday.

Radiopane, who is the league’s top scorer, opened matters with a fifth minute penalty and bagged a second after 15 minutes before Katlego Cwinyane made it three into the halftime interval.

Swallows put up a fight back afterwards, but Radiopane stole the show entirely with two more strikes to see Bucs to eight successive wins and cemented top spot too.

Maritzburg United 1-1 Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns scraped their four match losing streak with a 1-1 draw against Maritzburg United at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

Masandawana entered the break leading through Ndzalama Mhangwana, but the Team of Choice responded following the restart courtesy of Samkelo Dlamuka.

Golden Arrows 3-1 Chippa United

Chippa United’s five-match winning period came to an end following a 3-1 loss to Golden Arrows at the Princess Magogo Stadium to lose momentum with the front-runners.

Azola Matrose had Chippa off to a good start on 24 minutes, but a penalty from Sifiso Hlope later on in the half brought Arrows level towards the break.

Abafana Besthende took full control following the resumption, as Siyabonga Khumalo and Shaka Zulu struck minutes from each other to hand the host victory after last week’s loss to Baroka FC.

Stellenbosch FC 0-1 Sekhukhune United

Stellenbosch FC weren’t able to register cement second spot on the table as they went down 1-0 to Sekhukhune United.

Babina Noko needed a third minute finish from Seun Ledwaba to get them over the line and prevented Stellies consecutive wins after last week’s success over TS Galaxy.

SuperSport United 1-3 Royal AM

SuperSport United suffered their first loss of the year at the hands of Royal AM, who snatched a 3-1 victory out at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

As the first half finished goalless, Matsatsanta had the breakthrough courtesy of Modimo Moeti before AM levelled en-route to Philani Kumalo and Gumede completing the turnaround.
