Lekoelea reveals Khoza's pre-final ritual

Former Orlando Pirates superstar Steve Lekoelea has revealed how club chairman Irvin Khoza gets involved at the club before every cup final match.

On Saturday 'The Ghosts' will be taking on Bloemfontein Celtic in the MTN8 final at Moses Mabhida Stadium – a match they are expected to win due to their superior squad compared to Siwelele.

Lekoelea believes Pirates are favourites to win on Saturday, especially with the tradition of Dr Khoza going to see and address the players about creating their own legacy with the club.

“I know Celtic is playing good football at the moment but on the weekend, Pirates is going to win." ‘Chippa’ tells KickOff.com.

“Pirates is a team of history, they like creating history and I'm sure ‘Mr Chairman’ will talk to the players. Usually before a Final he speaks to the players, telling them how important the game is to the club.

“Because Pirates is a team of history, he always wants to make new history when they play a final or a cup match. I think Pirates will win this game, even though most people are talking about Celtic.”

Asked to give an idea of Khoza’s pre-game ritual, the former Bucs star responded: “The chairman always tells you, ‘You see this jersey? You’re not playing for you; you’re playing for the nation.

“’This is a team for the nation. You play for the jersey and the pride of the team.  The team must always perform because there's too many sponsors who put money in the team.’

“So, they must perform, because this thing of losing games is going back to the chairman when the sponsors are asking what's going on you see. But when the team is winning everything is perfect.

“He doesn't like to be disappointed, as for me, even today I will not forget his words. That's why I'm remembered as a good player today, it's because of him. He liked saying 'You are only as good as your last game.'

“You can't play good this week and think you are done, because Pirates is a big team. If you are not mentally and physically fit, you can't survive. But this weekend I see a 2-0 win for Pirates.”
