The philosophical Briton says ‘one beautiful day doesn’t make a nice summer’ as he reflects on his team’s performance.
“I think we played well and people will say we had a good game. But it is very early days you know and there must be more beautiful days before I get excited. I was pleased with the performance and the attitude of the players, because we knew this was a very big potential banana skin as we found out last season when we lost 1-0 against Aces,” he says.
Baxter, though, do suggest that those who say Chiefs won’t be competitive this season because they haven’t signed some big signings are way off the mark in terms of their assessment.
“What I’m pleased about is that players like Bernard [Parker] and Shabba [Siphiwe Tshabalala] who are out injured know that they have competition. We have taken a little bit of stick about not signing players highline players, but I think that the squad that we’ve got is competitive,” he concludes.
