Once again Katlego Mphela was the hero for the Brazilians, netting his 11th goal of the season 10 minutes before half-time.
The result was a fair reflection of the play, with Sundowns doing most of the attacking for the start. Benedict Vilakazi, getting a rare start, tested Greg Etafia early on, while Matty Pattison fired just wide a few minutes later.
However, Swallows were unlucky not to grab the lead on 22 minutes when Brian Baloyi dropped a routine cross at the feet of Davi Rancan, but his effort was cleared on the line by Siyanda Xulu.
Vilakazi again tested Etafia from the edge of the area, before Mphela broke the deadlock on 36 minutes – running onto Esrom Nyandoro’s perfect through-ball before beating the keeper at the near post.
Etafia did well to keep out Elias Pelembe’s free-kick just before the break to keep his team in the game.
Swallows rung the changes at the break, and it almost paid off as Shaun Haschick slid in to flick on Sibusiso Khumalo’s cross, but the ball went straight at Baloyi.
Mphela then had a great chance to secure the points with 15 minutes to go, going one-on-one with the keeper after some excellent build-up play, but his shot with the outside of his foot drifted wide.
Khumalo then dragged a shot just wide in injury-time as Sundowns walked away with the points.
