The South African Football Players Union's Calvin Motloung has slammed Royal AM for splashing money in front of TV cameras.

Royal AM came under fire after paying bonuses to players by handing out lumps of cash from a brown envelope on TV immediately after their victory in a DStv Premiership clash against Maritzburg United on Sunday.

The John Maduka-led side beat United by 2-1 which resulted in jubilant chairman Andile Mpisane and his mother, club owner Shauwn Mkhize rewarding players with cash bonuses live on TV.

"This should be condemned in the strongest teams," Motloung tells Kickoff.com.

"What they did is disrespectful to the players and even to the league.

"They are also putting the lives of the players at risk by inviting tsotsis to follow the players.

"This is also not helping the league as a global brand. I don't know why they couldn't wait to pay the players in the dressing room.

"This was done to show off and what is sad is that they still owe some players salaries but have the guts to splash money in front of TV cameras.

"Some of the players were paid half of the salaries owed to them."

Efforts to reach the club for a response proved unsuccessful.
